We’ve all heard it before, “I’ve got to go home and get my beauty sleep.” But is ‘beauty sleep’ a real thing or just an excuse to leave a really boring party?

Scientists from Sweden performed a study where they showed 23 subjects (men and women varying in age between 18 and 31) to a panel of 65 students. The subjects were photographed after a good nights sleep and then again after being kept awake for 31 hours straight (after just a five hour sleep).

The panel was shown the photographs and asked to rate the images, between zero and 10, for attractiveness, tiredness and health.
